The best Claude Code and Codex usage limit trackers (2026)

Written by GuruHat, which makes AI Meter by GuruHat. We've tried to be fair to every tool here; features were checked against each project's own page in October 2026.

Short answer: to see how much of your Claude Code or Codex limit is left, use AI Meter by GuruHat if you want something tiny that also runs on Windows, or CodexBar on Mac if you use many AI providers. For token and cost history, use ccusage.

The tools in more detail

AI Meter by GuruHat — best small, always-visible meter for Mac and Windows

AI Meter by GuruHat shows one number, such as AI 41%: how much of your current Claude Code five-hour window or Codex allowance is left. Click it for the exact reset time. It uses the sign-in Claude Code or the Codex CLI already saved, refreshes every five minutes, and has no account, analytics or server of its own. The Windows version sits on the taskbar next to the tray and is also on the Microsoft Store.

CodexBar — best for many providers on Mac

CodexBar is an open-source macOS menu bar app (macOS 14+, also on Linux) that tracks session, weekly and monthly windows with reset countdowns across a long list of AI providers. It installs with brew install --cask codexbar and includes a CLI. If you juggle Claude, Codex, Cursor, Gemini and more, it covers the most ground.

ccusage — best for token and cost history

ccusage reads Claude Code's local log files and reports tokens and estimated cost by day, month, session or five-hour block. Run it with npx ccusage@latest. Companion packages cover Codex and other CLIs. It answers "what have I used?" rather than "how much of my plan is left right now?"

How to choose

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to track my Claude Code usage limit?

For an always-visible meter, AI Meter by GuruHat (Mac and Windows) or CodexBar (Mac and Linux) show how much of your limit is left and when it resets. Inside Claude Code, /usage shows the same on demand. ccusage reports token and cost history from local logs instead.

Is there a Claude Code usage tracker for Windows?

Yes. AI Meter by GuruHat runs on Windows 10 and 11 and shows your remaining Claude Code or Codex usage on the taskbar. It's free, open source and on the Microsoft Store.

Does ccusage show my remaining limit?

ccusage reports tokens and estimated costs from Claude Code's local logs, including five-hour blocks. It isn't a live view of your plan's remaining allowance; use /usage, AI Meter or CodexBar for that.
