ClipHat privacy policy.
ClipHat keeps a history of what you copy so you can use it again. That history stays on your device. ClipHat has no account, no cloud sync, no analytics, and no GuruHat server, and it makes no network connections.
Effective date: October 23, 2026
What ClipHat stores
While capture is on, ClipHat saves what you copy to the clipboard so it can show it in your history:
- Text and links, up to 1 MB each
- Images, up to 10 MB each
- Copies of files you copy, up to 20 MB each (folders are skipped)
- For each item, the name of the app it was copied from and the time you copied it
ClipHat also saves your settings, such as how many items to keep, which kinds of items to save, and the apps to ignore.
On Windows, all of this is stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\GuruHat\ClipHat (in the Microsoft Store version, Windows keeps it in the app's own private folder). On macOS it is stored in ~/Library/Application Support/GuruHat/ClipHat. Nothing is encrypted beyond the protection your operating system gives your user account, so anyone who can sign in to your account can read it.
What ClipHat skips
- Anything copied from password managers such as 1Password, Bitwarden, KeePass, KeePassXC, Dashlane, and Enpass
- Anything copied from apps you add to the ignore list in Settings › Privacy
- Clipboard content that apps mark as sensitive or as excluded from clipboard history, using the standard Windows markers
- Everything, while capture is paused
Apps don't always mark sensitive content, so add any app you want excluded to the ignore list.
Where your data goes
Nowhere. ClipHat makes no network connections and sends nothing to GuruHat or to anyone else. Items leave ClipHat only when you choose to: when you copy an item back to the clipboard, drag it into another app, or open a saved link in your web browser. When you copy or drag a saved file, ClipHat puts a temporary copy of it in your temp folder so the other app can read it.
Deleting your data
Delete single items with the × on each card or with Ctrl+Delete, or clear your history in Settings › History. Uninstalling the Microsoft Store version removes everything it stored. For the installer version, uninstall ClipHat and delete the %LOCALAPPDATA%\GuruHat\ClipHat folder.
What ClipHat does not do
- No accounts or sign-up
- No cloud sync
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising
- No selling or sharing of personal data
Children
ClipHat is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them.
Open source
ClipHat is free and open source under the MIT license, so you can check exactly what it does on GitHub.
