AI Meter privacy policy.
AI Meter shows how much of your Claude Code or Codex usage is left. It has no account, no analytics, and no GuruHat server. Your data stays on your device, except for the one request it makes to read your usage.
Effective date: October 21, 2026
What AI Meter reads
To check your usage, AI Meter reads the sign-in that Claude Code or the Codex CLI already saved on your device:
- Claude: the Claude Code sign-in token. On Windows that is
%USERPROFILE%\.claude\.credentials.json(orCLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR). On macOS it is the Claude Code item in your Keychain, or~/.claude/.credentials.json. - Codex: the ChatGPT sign-in token in
%USERPROFILE%\.codex\auth.jsonon Windows or~/.codex/auth.jsonon macOS (orCODEX_HOME).
AI Meter only reads these tokens. It never changes them, copies them elsewhere, or keeps its own copy. On macOS, if your Claude sign-in has expired, AI Meter may run claude doctor (at most once every 10 minutes) so the Claude Code CLI renews its own sign-in. This sends no prompt and uses none of your allowance.
Where your data goes
About every five minutes, and when you choose Refresh, AI Meter sends each token only to the service it belongs to, over HTTPS:
- Anthropic, at
api.anthropic.com, for Claude usage - OpenAI, at
chatgpt.com, for Codex usage
Those services return your usage percentage and reset time. Their own privacy policies cover how they handle these requests. AI Meter sends nothing to GuruHat or to anyone else.
What AI Meter stores
AI Meter saves your settings (such as which provider to show and whether the percentage appears on the taskbar) and the last usage reading, so it can show something right away when it starts. On Windows these are in %LOCALAPPDATA%\GuruHat\AIMeter. On macOS they are in the app’s preferences. If you turn on Start with Windows, AI Meter adds a startup entry for your user account. Uninstalling the app and deleting that folder removes everything it stored.
What AI Meter does not do
- No accounts or sign-up
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising
- No reading of your prompts, conversations, code, or files
- No selling or sharing of personal data
